Silvertown Tunnel opens
With the Silvertown Tunnel officially opening in East London, we’ve written to Sir Sadiq Khan to reiterate our view that his support for the tunnel is misguided and to request a comprehensive review of traffic in London.
The Mayor's own research indicates that road transport must be reduced by 27% to achieve Net Zero across London by 2030. Despite the introduction of the ULEZ and even prior to the opening of the Silvertown Tunnel, more people than ever are driving in London.
We need the Mayor to find a way to continue to reduce air pollution and driving across our capital, especially in the most affected communities, and in spite of the Silvertown Tunnel. Increasing road capacity isn't the way to achieve a reduction in traffic or air pollution.
